Laptop won't connect

I have just got a laptop and am having problems connecting to wi-fi at home.

Desktop has no problem, iphone connects ok.

When connecting laptop says 'taking longer than usual, connected with limited connectivity'. 'Connected to router but not to internet'.

I ran a diagnosis check which said to unplug router and laptop, then leave for a few seconds then try again. It connected ok, but I shouldn't have to do this each time, should I?

I have not added anything to settings on the laptop.

Very frustrating, hope someone can help.

Somehow you get the prompt "The requested operation requires elevation" sometimes when you try to execute some Windows network programs or run some network commands in command prompt, and you might wonder what is this and not too sure what to do next.

This is actually part of the User Account Control (UAC) feature of Windows Vista that controls the program execution as normal user, administrator or other user types with different access control. You will get this prompt because that program will need to be run as administrator, so the quick way to fix it is re-run by right clicking the program and select Run as administrator.

Another suggestion would be to go to Device Manager and under the heading "Network Adapters" right click on the adapter listed there - then right click again and select "Update Driver Software"
