My Adobe Acrobat won't open

Hi I have a large document which I have saved in Adobe Acrobat but now can't open the program, when I click on it nothing happens, have put in a search and it says on desktop so I click on the shortcut icon on the desktop and it still won't open, any ideas? Thanks
