After doing some customization of my Word 2003 I was asked if I wanted to save the changes in normal.dot. I answered yes and then I thought it would be wise to store away a copy of that file. I tried to locate it with the Search command, but the file is nowhere to be found! Can anybody help? I would be very grateful

normal.dot is a hidden file. Assuming you're using XP go to Control Panel - Folder Options - View tab and then click on Show hidden files and folders. Click Apply and OK. You will then be able to search it out.

If I were you.
I would re-Name 'Normal.dot' to 'Normal.old', before saving your new Settings.
Just in case you wish to return to the Original settings at some time in the future.

Also keep a Copy of your Revised 'Normal.dot' as 'Normal.new' in the same Folder.

You've asked on your other thread where the normal.dot file is held.
Again assuming XP look in Windows Explorer for the following path
C:\Documents and Settings\Your user name\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates
