WMA 11 poor quality

It seems that a number of CDs that I have ripped on to my PC and then transferred onto my old MP3 player using WMA 11 have suffered from poor sound quality. The rate according to what is in my player is 128Kps, 44KHz. My PC is a somewhat dated Dell running windows XP SP3.

When playing back the sound tracks on my ARCHOS GMINI the music skips and jumps. The same appears to be the case if playing through the PC. Music that I have downloaded from Amazon on to the PC then transfered across seems OK but this was in MP3 format.

Any ideas why this is happening and how to cure this problem

As MP3 seems to work on your Archos them try ripping as MP3 with Media Player. Tools - Options - Rip Music and then select MP3 in the drop down list.
