Computer dosen't recognise correct printer

Computer keeps recognising my printer as EPSON ESC/P-R instead of an EPSON stylus R340. it works perfectly on normal printing. But to use it for photos I have to update latest drivers it then recognises it is an EPSON stylus R340 but completly bogs the system down and can take up to 20 minutes to print a colour print.I have to uninstall it after finally printing a colour print re plug the printer in it then goes back to EPSON ESC/P-R and I can print documents normally. If any body can help as you can imagine have tried many things to try and resolve but a complete failure so please HELP Eltel
