W7 To HP5L Printer

I bought a USB to centronics cable (£4)to be able to print via this very old HP mono laser jet printer that works well.The printer is not recognised by W7 Laptop, and has not got the driver for the printer in the W7 OS. Does anyone use this type of cable to print to a centronics printer. Any ideas please Thanks David

Are you saying that when you connect the printer nothing happens (ie: you don't get the "new hardware found" message and nothing appears in Device Manager)?

Or is the printer recognised but Windows says there's no driver available for that model?
