Restoring computer from system image

Hi, I am running Windows 7 Home Premium and a couple of days ago I had a virus/trojan (Win32/fakesysdef) which my anti virus (Microsoft Security Essentials) did not seem to pick up, finally cleared it using the free Norton Erasor but have been left with a few problems, the ones I know about are; unable to change the wallpaper and lots of files and folders that were not "Hidden" are now "Hidden". The ones I see are easy enough to change back but I dont know what else has happened. A few days before this happened I used the Backup facility in Windows to create an Image and a Backup, I have never restored from an Image before and wondered if there was anything in particular to watch out for and a rough idea of how long it takes.Any help will be gratefully received, Tks

Yes you can but Im sure the disk has to be same size or larger. Im fully conversant with Acronis and still have Version 11, recent versions are overkill in my view. All I was saying was that your derogatory remarks regarding Win 7 Backup were OTT, may have applied to previous versions but not anymore.

Are your remarks based on actually testing it?

Well, finally used the image to restore my computer. Somethings went well, others not so good. Almost all of my desktop icon shortcuts got corrupted and actually opened different programms, clicking on word and autoroute would open etc and on My Computer instead of "downloads" showing my actual Downloads I have Folders called Cyberlink, Favourites,Libraries, Public Desktop, Public Downloads,Public Music, Public Videos, Recorded TV, Sample Music and Sample Videos. In "Desktop" i have my Downloads and none of the other folders contain my Desktop, if someone has a simple solution I would be grateful for their help . Tks
