trouble with thunderbird

unable to log onto thunderbird, message is 'thunderbird is already running and you need to blose and restart etc' but message appears continually, i have uninstalled and re installed to no avail still the same message nor does it appear in devce manager but it is on my hard drive. is it me or mozilla ?any ideas?
