Registry Damage

Vista 64 bit desktop.

Left my PC on overnight and in morning hard drive light showed HD running but unable to wake up PC.

After reboot it went to Windows system check and that gives "damaged registry".

No safe mode available and unable to get to last good restore point.

Some sort of registry repair software I can run from the DVD drive is needed, ideal if it's freeware.

A very unwise thing to do. A power surge or many other things could damage it, additionally what if it overheated and caught fire?

To attempt a recovery, you could first run 'sfc /scannow'; the link tells you how link text. If this fails then a 'Repair' is probably the only option; again the link gives details link text
