two versions of Windows...

...this laptop has a menu at boot time which offers two versions of Windows. I think one is a failed installation. How do I get rid of it???

What versions?

Different methods are required depending on the operating system.

If XP then Start - Run - type msconfig - boot.ini tab - click check boot paths

If Vista or W7 then use easyBCD to repair the bootloader see here

It's Win XP. Have tried with msconfig and bootcfg. No joy there. Decided to just reduce the timeout on the menu, with the good copy as default.
