Hard Drive Failure

I have a 3 year old Cougar Extreme Desktop system. Unfortunately my hard drive failed to load windows yesterday. I have checked the connections inside and as it’s making a terrible noise I am assuming it needs replacing. My old hard drive was a WD Raptor WD1500ADFD. I have searched the net for a replacement (it looks like that it has been discontinued?), but can only find a WD VelociRaptor WD1500HLFS. Does anyone know if this is the replacement model and therefore would work in my computer? I am grateful for any help

Does your have onboard graphics as well as the card? If so, try from the VGA port.

Done that, don’t know what’s happening though.
Computer started up with a terrible distorted and flickering picture into the repair start-up screen, tried to repair itself, failed and shut down. When I restarted computer it went straight into windows without any problems and a perfect picture.

Sorry, my reply was to the suggestion to unplug the monitor and what happened when I reconnected it. I didn’t see the question about the onboard graphics card. Not sure about that, how can I find out.
