I386 corrupt in Vista

My friend has run sfc /scannow on the Vista Home Premium Laptop.

The result was that it found problems that it could not repair.

Would this be problems with the I386 file, and if it is would it be o.k. to rename that file that is in C: and copy the file from the Installation disk (if sh can find it)? What is the correct procedure for installing direct to C: please?

Or, is there an alternative?

Thanks

Vista does not have an i386 file - that was an XP thing.

Have a look here at running SFC in Vista Microsoft Support
