Missing ram

I bought a computer with 16 gb ram which showed up correctly until I installed xp pro. Now it only shows 3.3 gb. How can I get back to using the 16 gb. Many thanks.

You need a 64 bit OS to utilise more than 4 GB of memory

Hiya.

3.3g will show if you are 32bit Windows, to see all the ram a 64bit Op Sys needs to be used.

You probably had 64bit on your original installation (Was it Vista....uck)

Many thanks for the answers. Yes, it came with a trial version of Windows 7 Home Premium, where it was all available. It seems like a bit of a waste of 13 gb and I suppose I'll have to upgrade one day. It's a shame because xp pro is so good, but that's the way it goes, I suppose.
