Net Framework 2.0 and Windows 7

When i first start my Laptop it shows a message saying "Net framework 2.0 is missing" and then gives me a link to download it, The link to the Microsoft site does not work. I then find Net Framework 2.0 and download it. Whilst installing it, half way through an error message comes up saying "Not compatable with 64 bit system".

So i have not clue how to get rid of the error message on start up and could not find any real info on the issue. Any help would be welcome.

Thanks

Jay
