Ex. Hard drive dead

In the process of panicking over removing a fake spyware programme (see earlier post) I knocked over my 'Western Digital Elements 1TB External Hard Drive'. It now won't show up as a drive. the lights are on but the drive doesn't respond. Thankfully we have a second back up drive, but is that it? Its only a couple of months old! Are they that easy to damage? It fell from the top of the pc tower on to the floor. (pc tower is also on the ground)

Unlucky if drive is damage they do not like shocks such as a fall

If your lucky drive is OK but power system is damaged try removing drive from case and fit either direct to a spare sata port in your PC or by another case to put it in link text

External Drives are a bit like babies.

Dropping them on the floor is not good but not always fatal, their age is irrelevant.
