What's the difference between IDE and Pata? What's E-SATA? is it an extension from the motherboard to the outside? Also, if your using E-SATA, how is the drive powered?

IDE (EIDE)and Pata are the same ESATA to connect and external sata drive (cable length is the problem, external sata drives will need their own power supply just like a USB drive case.
