Using Full HD TV as monitor - query

Hi.... I intend buying: 1) a Full HD TV for use as computer monitor and second TV 2) a computer base unit running Win7, 64-bit
Here’s my query: When I get the TV, my first move will be to tune it in via the aerial as normal. When I connect it to my new computer via HDMI cable, though, how will the TV ‘know’ it’s being used as a monitor and not a TV? I’m using XP Home on my current computer and will be new to Windows 7. So, will I have to alter something within Win 7 in order for the TV to act as a monitor or do I simply disconnect any aerial connection before switching on? Any thoughts on the matter would be appreciated. Many thanks...

In the TV's menu there will be a way of selecting signal source. This differs according to manufacturer, but it will be there.

There will probably be a button on the remote control to select AV inputs as opposed to the built-in digital tuner. For example, there may be AV1 & AV2 for two SCART connectors, AV3 for phono connectors (yellow-video, white-left audio, red-right audio) and then HDMI.

My is listed as HMDI Video1 or HMDI Video2. Just press the "Source" button on your remote and selct accordingly. The TV is connected to my Archos 101 and I play films on the TV and it will act as a monitor for my Archos when I access the web.
