Hi

I have a Sony Vaio desktop running XP SP3,IE8 and spybpot and MS security essentials. Of late there are random problems of missing characters when entering text into online messages(such as this)or using Excel, also multiple insertions (stuttering) of the same character. IE8 also freezes causing the CPU fan to come on.No security threats have been fund. I used CCleaner the other week to try to sort out the problem and also a defrag. Usually I have Live Messenger open. Any ideas please? Thanks

"IE8 also freezes causing the CPU fan to come on."

It sounds as if your PC may be overheating. Have you checked the CPU heat sink for cleanliness? You could also check temperatures by using Everest Home link text - after starting click on 'Computer' then 'Sensor' and details of CPU/GPU/HDD temperatures will be shown along with fan speeds.

Normally the cause of the problems described are when the CPU is busy doing something else, or running slow because of overheating.

It could also be as simple as your keyboard failing, and a replacement needed.
