iPod Syncranisation

My ipod(Nano 5th gen) refuses to sync or be acknowledged by itunes. I have tried resetting the ipod while it is plugged in, changing usb ports, reinstalling itunes, When I plug my ipod into the computer it doesnt even register with windows(XP) that anything is plugged in, I ran diagnostics with itunes and it said the same. I have also tried changing my ipod cable to see if it was its fault but nothing works, any suggestions?
