Format help need please

I just recently tried to format my hard drive as my pc was running slow. Upon completion i went to my compter, c drive, properties & found my hard was full. I tried formating my pc a number of times with the same result again & again.

After doing some reasearch i then realised that i had two operating systems on one partition (C:) with might be a reason my hard was full all the time. So i decided to try again & format the dive & have not been successful. I think that every time i am uploading xp it just replacing the previous one & not both of them.

When ive gone through the options of format, i have specified for a fresh copy of xp (my operating system) to be installed & deleting the previous one. I've tried to do this by booting my system disk, through msdos (format)& also systems management on my windows.

I have very little knowledge of computers & was wondering if anybody could help me get some of my hard drive space back.

Thanks
