Opening emails

Hi, another query regards my re=install of XP ( the other one was about web pages being too large) A few years ago I saw on this forum information regarding altering the way emails appeared, normally when clicking once on an email the full message appears in bottom panel, there was a way to stop the messages appearing in bottom panel. It meant you had to click twice to see messages which I preferred. Has anyone come across this? and does anyone know how to do it, Thanks for any help

In XP using Outlook Express the settings are in the View Menu if I remember rightly.
