Windows explorer problem

**When I try to open a drive or folder from explorers main pane I get the error message "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel". I can explore all the files using the navigation pane but I could always do this before from the main window. I've tried: system restore back to when I knew it worked, task manager - end explore.exe process, new task explore, default program change to explorer (even though it was showing as the default), all without success. Any other suggestions would be welcome. I'm running Windows 7 with SP1 installed. **

Download and try the "folder fix" for Windows 7 here http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/fix-file-association-error-explorer-in-windows-7/ (no necessity to run the free scan)
