No hard drive usb stick instead

i am planning on building a pc and am wondering if i could boot linux off usb as xp wont then use some program to boot into xp pro.

no idea how i can do this and weather the motherboard will do it?

if i can a low ram and cpu hungary linux would be needed and small as planning on using 8gb memory stick and have a small xp that only uses 4gb when installed compard to my previous xp pro of 10gb

any ideas are greatful.

are you wanting to run XP on a hard drive from another machine?
Will not boot as drivers are wrong for your motherboard etc.

only if the BIOS supports booting from USB.

withouut a hard disk instead running via usb cheap ssd is this possible?

thought windows turned off usbs when booting

Yes, your motherboard supports booting from usb devices however you may have to enable it. Do this by pressing F2 when you power up the machine to enter the bios menu, then goto the boot menu and enable USB boot.

Once enabled press F10 at start up to boot from the USB device
