Modem to go with wireless router?

Help! Complete wireless novice needs help choosing a modem to go with my new "Linksys E2000 Advanced Wireless-N Router". I thought I could use the modem I had been using with my desktop PC, but it turns out that the network cable from the wireless router won't fit into the modem (modem has a USB port I think, which is too small for the network cable to plug into). I've looked online and now realise that a gateway(?) or a router with built in modem would've been better, but I can't return the router now, so need to know of a cheap modem to go with it. I only really surf the internet for news, e-mail, online banking etc.
Any help much appreciated!
