multiple .htaccess file query

spot the braincell

Hi,

I have placed a .htaccess file in the root directory to hopefully block some bad bots (referenced in another thread of mine)

I've checked my other files and see that my wordpress installation has another .htaccess file in its directory.

Question is, will the commands to block the bots in my higher level .htaccess file be made redundant by the existence of the 2nd .htaccess file which doesn't hold those commands?
cheers
