Loading new image without page refresh

Hi,

I am trying to figure out the best way to load an image on a page without having one image per page. The person I am working with wishes to have one image at a time shown on the page with a previous/next to load the previous or next image respectively. I assume this can be done in PHP. I have limited knowledge of PHP so any tutorial that will be good in helping me to achieve this would be much appreciated or just any general help too. I have tried to search for one but none seem to be what I am looking for. I thought perhaps someone on here may know of one.

I could probably do it in JS, but I have no knowledge whatsoever of JS and thought that it would be best to to PHP and store the images in a table in a MySQL database and load it from there.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance
