Need a good text editor

Hi

I'm venturing into the world of programming - chiefly php/mysql at the moment and was wondering if anyone could recommend a good text editor. I'm not looking for anything too fancy, but one that would be good for a beginner - I hear that vim can be hard to get to grips with, but any suggestions would be welcome.

p.s. I currently use XP

Thanks

Vim is good, but so is Notepad++, which I use every day. click here. In other web dev forums, you will find many folk who won't use anything else. If that doesn't appeal (which is unlikely, but everyone is different) SM did a run-down of text editors last year: click here
