Hi

Just wondering if anyone had suggestions for remote software apps. I would like to be able to help people remotely and want a good app to do so.

Cheers

I use Crossloop very successfully with a dozen or so of my non techy friends and several business customers. It`s free click here

Providing the target machine has access to the internet and can download the program to the machine it works very well, far better in my opinion than Remote Assistance.

It is based on TightVNC which is Open Source software and as such will be picked up by firewalls and most Anti-malware programs such as Asquared (Add it to the whitelist). Windows firewall throws up a dialog box which gives you the option to "Unblock" and Zone Alarm you simply allow and tick the box to remember the decision. Norton and Mcafee are problematical but I generally ask the user to disable the firewall elements temporarily and once I have connected I ad the program to the exclusion list.

For a full description of how it works click here It is well worth testing it out for yourself with a few people at first - be warned though, one of my business customers found it so useful that I had phone calls from his staff every day for over a week resolving problems!

I used LogMein earlier, but now it's RHUB TurboMeeting which I am using for my remote access needs. There are many more free options out there that's sufficient but do lack some features paid versions offer. However, RHUB is a good alternative to some of the VNC products. On top of remote access, it also has web conferencing functions.
