Advent 7201 Notebook RAM and Harddrive upgrades??

I have an Advent 7201 Notebook that has 1gb of ram at the moment and an 80gb hard drive and i am running windows vista... i've just bought another 1gb strip of ram and a new 250gb hard drive. When my parnter put the RAM in, the laptop only recognized one of the two strips. The notebook does have a 2gb limit on the ram, but that's all we're trying to put in. why is it not recognizing the two strips?

Also, it says in the manual for the laptop that there is a 100gb limit on the hard drive... will the new 250gb hard drive not work?

You would have been wise to use the Crucial RAM check facility click here as it will tell you both how much and what type of RAM you can fit.

As for the HDD I can think of no particular reason it shouldn`t work, but the manufacturer must have good reason to make the statement. Perhaps something in the software set up?

Eveyrwhere says that this laptop accepts 2Gb of RAM...it turns out that we got the wrong speed of RAM. The strip of ram in the laptop must be labled wrong because we bought the exact same and it would run. We bought the slower speed and it runs...

As for the hard drive, we spent all night last night looking it up online and we decided to be brave and just open it and install it. It works fine (its in now! :) )

Thanks for the site, i'll keep that place in mind for future needs :)

Apperently i should have been more technical (according to the boyfriend)... The RAM in the laptop is DDR2 667... so that made him think 5300, but turns out the laptop runs on 4200, so once we changed the RAM to 4200, it workd perfectly
