Problem with speakers

Hi can anybody assist with the following. I have just purchased some Bose companian 3 speakers to replace my old Logitech ones. The previous speakers had three jacks that plugged into my sound card the normal green yellow and black. The Bose ones only have a black single lead. I have plugged them into the green port on my sound card but they will not work, have juggled them around but still no sound. I am running Windows 7 OS does anyone know how I can get the speakers to work. I have looked in audio devices etc but still am having no luck. Thanks in advance

I have this sound system and yes the lead plugs into the green socket. The control pad should light up green when touched and amber when in standby. Obviously the sound is muted when headphones are plugged in
