Problem with Word 2003

We are running Office 2003 in a Windows XP Pro environment and one of the PC's has suddenly developed a problem with Word. Whenever Word opens, the drop down menu bar does not appear. I have managed to develop a short-term work-around by creating a new Word icon on th desktop using the /a option, but the operator keeps shortcuts of current documents on the desktop and, of course, each time one of these are opened, the drop down bar is missing. I have tried the obvious solution of deleting all versions of normal.dot (including the recycle bin) without any improvement to the situation.
How can I correct this, please?

You may need to repair the Office 2003 installation.
I assume you still have access to the setup CD(s)

I appear to have resolved the problem by deleting the Data key in the Registry. Certainly seems to now be working ok, but will watch over the next couple of days.
