OpenOffice.Org

I have installed OpenOffice.Org word processor software.
When I emailed a letter attachment to a member of my family, they were unable to open it, as their Word facility did not recognise the OpenOffice.Org format.
Is there a way round it, or, does the recipient also need to have OpenOffice.Org installed to read it?

Make sure you save the letter as a word doc, Open Office does not use that as the default setting.

Can you save as Word .doc ... Yes, just click on Save as, in Open Office Org, and then look in the drop-down menu for Document type to save as.
