Windows Explorer Not showing Pages

I exclusively use Chrome set to Google.uk as my browser, but today I thought I'd try Win Explorer. I set the homepage and set it to open pages under a new tab. It does all that - but the pages it opens are completely blank!

No matter what I've searched for, the tab opens, the page is blank, and the tab reads google.co.uk. Strange! I've obviously missed something but I can't see what it is.

Following on from the post above - if I right click the search result I want and select 'open in new window', it does! It opens the page perfectly. So why not in a new tab?

Do you mean Internet Explorer?

Yes sorry.

It is set to a homepage - but after a few minutes I'm getting a message that Internet Explorer has stopped working - close program etc. Last time it happened I got the 'Blue Screen'. Fortunately it recovered after a restart in Safe Mode and then a normal reboot.

I have removed the icon for IE and won't use it again! Not really a solution but can't win them all!
