Windows backup to seagate HDD

I wish to make a full backup - system image and all files- of my laptop (Windows7) to a Seagate Backup Plus. Using Windows Backup and Restore. The backup starts OK but when the indicator is about half way across the process stops with a message "One of the backup files could not be created. The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error". The drive is new. Any ideas as to the problem please. Is it the drive or the pc?

Seagate suggest using DiscWizard. Anybody used this?

Yes, most do, it is actually a slightly cut down version of Acronis True Image. I recommend you use it :) don't forget to download the .pdf user guide.

If you have a SSD drive, best check that it will work with that (I don't know if it does or not)

Actually, I would have thought it ideal for the problem - but make sure that the backup is to a separate physical drive to ensure cover in the event of Hard Drive failure.

Have you tried Googling "I/O device error"
