I have a HP laptop, is it possible to make a disk image, possibly on a sequence of DVDs, or on an external hard disk, so that I can reinstall everything as it is now in case it becomes necessary? Thank you

Acronis True Image is often recommended on this forum. - Acronis This is paid for software.

A free alternative is Easeus ToDo. -95Easeus95 Make sure you select the free 'Home Use' version.

Don't forget to burn the boot CD that you will need for restoring from an image. The programs will prompt you to do that.

Windows 7 has disk imaging built into it that's now every bit as good as Acronis. Check out Control Panel\System and Security\Setup backup. There's a link in the left panel to create a system image. Make a System Repair Disk as well

Use an external disc, much more reliable than dvd's although it will do it.
