I have been running a GATEWAY laptop for the last five years with Windows 7.

I have Norton security system installed on it.

Suddenly, last weak a message appeared on the screen: This Windows version is not a valid version.

The computer then shut down.

Now when I try to switch it on, it cannot find the Hard Disk.

What are my options?

Thank you

My gut feeling is that it could be some form of malware. As Jock1e says, Microsoft would not just screw the computer - they would encourage you to buy a valid licence. In any event it sounds like you (surely) must have a valid licence already - for the last 5 years.

Now when I try to switch it on, it cannot find the Hard Disk.

So non of the above advice is going to work until we can access the drive.

What is the exact message you get?

"Drive not found, press F1 to continue," ?
