Just upgraded to Windows 8 on a Dell Inspiron N5040. wifi not working, downloaded "new"drivers from Dell site but still the same problem. what can I do?

Prior to upgrading, was there a key combination that you pressed to enable/disable WiFi? If so, upgrading may have removed the software that performed this function.

If you go into the Network Connections folder, is the adapter "enabled" and, if you double click it, does it show that IPv4 has "Internet" access?

Thanks mgmcc. The wifi switch is working fine and the device shows internet access on IPv4. However, when I use the switch, it indicates momentarily that it is Bluetooth, which it didn't before. There are issues with Bluetooth and W8. How do I resolve?

If you don't need or use Bluetooth, you could try disabling the Bluetooth adapter in Device Manager to see if that helps to get WiFi working.

This is a common problem with window 8. After the upgrade to window 8 from any other window or sometimes window 8 itself download & install the update available...

As a result window 8 WiFi driver may corrupt. This can also result in stop working of WiFi. Sometimes it also notice that WiFi button also stop working...In this case we recommend that you will re-install the WiFi Driver again.

If you buy the laptop/computer with pre loaded copy of window 8, you can locate the WiFi Drivers in "Window Drive". Most of the time it is Drive C:

OR alternatively you can also go to official website

http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/productsupport/ddsegmenter?c=us&l=en&ref=ff32&s=gen

Please select the county from the top left of the page.

Now select the product Home Users, Small Business and Enterprise IT to download & install the WiFi driver & restart the computer to get your problem solved.
