When ever i boot up the computer which is running Windows Vista i am informed that for some reason there is a problem with the AVG Test Center and Windows has to close it down? Could someone tell me what's going on here please!

I believe there are issues with AVG and Windows Vista i.e. it's not Vista compatible yet. Not everyone seems to experience problems so it's not set in stone that it won't work, just probable. There's not a lot that you can do but wait until AVG brings out a Vista compatible version. In the meantime try Avast, it's free and works fine with Vista.

I've been using AVG since I installed Vista - it's fine. Try uninstalling and then reinstalling the latest version.
