Vista - where do Downloads go?

I am setting up a new laptop for a friend.
I have downloaded AVG but where is it stored?
I have looked in Docs/Downloads - not there. It's not on the desktop and running Search AVG turns up nothing!
Don't you get a "choice" window as to where you want your download to go?

Usually to Documents/Downloads, but you have looked there. I would go through the motions again and see if it gives a path. You can stop the process then.

Hmmm - OK ventanas. I don't really know my way around Vista yet. Thanks.

Had another thought, if you used Firefox that has a default download folder. Check in options to see where it is.

No, it's just IE7 at the moment. The lappy is new and virgin. Thanks anyway.

On another matter, there is wall to wall Norton everywhere! It has not been installed and the owner doesn't want it to be. I want to download the removal tool but I need to know which version of Norton I have. How do I find out?

OK - cheers.

Or try control panel, unistall a program and the version should appear if you identify norton in the list and highlight it. The info will appear at the foot of the window.

I just tried the AVG again and this time I got the info about the d/l destination. I had a look at ZoneAlarm but didn't see Vista listed in the platforms. Would you know if it works?

OK, sorted the ZA thing. Yes, there is a Vista version.
