vista RC1 DVD-RW Drive broken

I have windows vista RC1 before I went to vista my dvd drive worked fine but now nothing. I was using a samsung TS-H552 but then changed it to a pioneer 106-D drive. I upgraded the firmware for the pioneer but it still didn't work. When a disc is put in and i open D:\ it ejects and says: Please Insert a Disc into drive D:\. Any Ideas?

Have you still got the samsung drive? Replace the pioneer with it and see if it works. Pioneer may be u/s.

If you go into BIOS is the drive at least detected there? If not it could be something as simple as a broken cable.

pioneer is listed along with liteon some modles do not function with vista. reported the beta to microsoft they never replied.

sunny staines that explains perhaps why I have seen at least two other threads from people whos drives are not seen when they upgraded to Vista.
So if this is so it must be a windows vista fault?

No, it's Lite-on's fault for not producing a Vista-compatible driver.
