Vista hanging on update screen

The comp was behaving very slowly so I re-started it, on shutting down it displays the "installing updates one of one" screen, do not switch off. It has been like this for over an hour, there is occassional hard disk activity. Should I force a switch-off and restart it again? Anyone had this before?

Regards

James

If it is a big update or you have several to configure it could take some time however i haven't had the issue were it takes this long to shut down, it could be a corrupt update? Better do a virus/spyware check as well just to be safe.
