Vista compatibility with Word 2000 etc.

I am about to buy an Acer Laptop which will probably have Vista Home Premium. I have a lot of Word files Outlook Express, all copied to CD-R and I also have a disc of Office 2000.
Acer will no doubt try to sell me an up to date version of Office. But how do I go about reading and working with my old files and can I use this Office 2000 disc instead of buying the new software?
If the answers are negative, would it make any difference or sense asking for a preinstalled downgrade to Windows XP?

is that Office 2000 will work with Vista, but some people have experienced problems with Outlook 2000.

Before installing you might want to take a look at this: click here

There will be no problem with your old files, once you've installed Office 2000 you'll be able to read and work with them without any trouble.

Many thanks for this.

I have been using Outlook Express 6. Do you think the same would apply?
