Vista Common Shell dll file association

I have accidently changed a file extension on a downloaded file to".zip". So when I try and rejoin the file with the other downloaded parts the programme is not recognising the that part. In the properties box for the files it shows that
it should "open with" " windows shell common dll". I tried to re-download the
file to replace it but it has the same association as the original (now .zip)as does any split files I download. Ladies and Gentlemen, please help

The orginal extension was avi.0; the subseqent in the series (to be joined with this file) is avi.1 & avi.2. The files with .1 and .2 did not change only the file ending avi.0 and any other file with the same extension changes to .zip.
