My thunderbird has fiercely decided to use the weirdest of fonts. (Yes, ok, must be something I have done myself) but I can't find either profile or users documents at all . Can someone help, please, before all my email buddies have to use a Chinese dictionary

Can you elaborate a bit more on what has happened?
What do you mean you can't find the profile or user documents?

Hi John. I am used to things like profiles being somewhere like:

c:\user\documents & settings\ etc etc.
Can't find any of these files on win 7, not even using the 7 search folders and files

The thunderbird profile is here in windows 7
users\username\appdata\roaming\thunderbird\profiles
Why do you need to access the profile if it's a font problem?

I need to delete the profile and start again, says the help for Thunderbird.

I cannot find "users\username\appdata\roaming\thunderbird\profiles" not even when I put my "proper" name instead.

I would reinstall and start again, except i think that would probably lose all my address books ( which won't transfer, but can only be copied & pasted) and emails.
What would you recommend?

Have you been into control panel and ticked "show hidden files folders and drives"?
