Update error 800B0100

Please could someone give me some hints on the error 800B0100 (when attemted MS updates)

The help link sends me to download the System Update Readiness tool (KB947821) - but this does not help at all.

This doesn't even appear that it can be run?

I have only (2 days) ago installed the o/s (Win 7 ultimate 64bit) and already there are problems? You wouldn't mind so much, but the MS 'help' is no help at all.

I've searched the net, and seen all manner of 'fixes' for this.

Has anyone had this error, who could give some practical advice on how to stop it so I can perform the updates?

disable your firewall. If you’re using any antivirus software.

Hi, yes have tried disabling the firewall, and have tried the various links.

Will try disabling the firewall again - but something more serious may be occurring..

Without checking, I purchased the Win7 upgrade (to upgrade from XP) and it appears you can't just do that? Also it is 32bit XP upgrading to 64bit Win7. I have done the upgrade, but am wondering how stable it all is?

Could software/incompatibility issues be giving me shutdown/update problems (or at least adding to them?)
