i us windows xp to create spreadsheets in microsoft excel i save it using the fils extension xls when i try to open this in microsoft office in vista on a lap top i get the message cannot open create an association how do i solve this problem please

Have you got Excel on your Vista machine? You won't be able to open a file without the program. If you have, right click on the file and choose Open With, then browse to the Excel executable file.

You can use OpenOffice to open files with an xls extension.
