My sons passing his Sony Vaio laptop onto a friend but having lost the back up discs, followed a tutorial to recover from the partition, all seemed ok but the laptop is running dreadfully slow,we have installed latest drivers to no effect

Any ideas? Suggestions

No exclamation marks in device manager and yes internet connection is fine, the laptop just is slow to respond, was updated overnight via windows update

Try running Process Explorer . See if something is using a lot of the CPU. Right click whatever it is and select 'search online". It should give you a good idea.
