Small window to the right of screen

My mother has recently found a small window popping up on the right hand side of her screen that blocks part of the usable space. It's the google homepage, all functional, but has no address bar to go elsewhere, nor a bar at the top with which to move the window or close it.

It doesn't show up as another program in the task manager, so we have no idea how to close it.

She uses windows 8, for reference, and has no recollection of downloading or changing any setting that could have caused this strange appearance.

Any help with how to get rid of the extra window would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Try this. In Internet Explorer, on the desktop, go to tools, internet options and change the home page to ,say , www. bing .com . See if the popup stops. If ok then open a new tab , type www. google .co .uk and close all other tabs. Back to tools, internet options and select the 'use current' button to set the home page back to Google.
