rundll32.exe problem

Using Vista, I am having problems with rundll32.exe.

Windows will not allow my browser to run in Protected Mode and Windows Data Execution Prevention facility keeps closing rundll32.exe.

File size of rundll32.exe in C:\Windows\System32 is 44,544 bytes. This seems proper, but the icon seems wrong. (Not the normal Windows application icon it shows instead, a blank blue page.

On running a search I have found programmes named "rundll32.exe" in:

C:\Windows\System32

C:\Windows\winsxs\x86microsoft-windows-rundll32.resources31bf3856ad364e356.0.6000.16386en-us_4a94c0c49c79ab3d and

C:\Windows\winsxs\x86microsoft-windows-rundll3231bf3856ad364e356.0.6000.16386none_d5ce8f93adff8210

Also, is a "rundll32.exe.mui" in C:\Windows\System32\en-US

My computer is running very strangely recently; sort of "faltering." I feel strongly as if I have some sort of malware—but having run Malwarebytes, AVG deep scan, Advanced System Care Pro, and Microsoft's own Malware Removal Facility, none of those have identified any threats.

Any advice out there?

The link below is a little old now but it does contain a picture of rundll32 in a blue picture that reminded me of your post. Worth a look and a bit more Googling.

Thanks chub_tor.

It seems the blue page icon is normal for rundll32.exe (in Sys32).

Hmmm...

I removed and reloaded Firefox and so far the warnings have not reappeared.

We live in hope.

Thanks again, Phrixos
