Restoring vista back up to windows 8

I have just purchased a new windows 8 laptop but want to load vista load files backed up on a netac hard drive. I have searched many places but none of the suggestions seem to work. One said go to system maintenenace in control panel but I do not seem to have this in my windows 8.1. Would appreciate any assistance as to how I can do this.

Two different OSs and not possible I'm afraid.

Not sure what load vista load files means though.

Hi and thanks for the reply. I have backed up my files from my old vista laptop onto my netac hd. Are you saying that I cannot transfer these to my new laptop?

Data files can be copied and pasted over, installed programs will have to be installed again on Win 8.

How did you back the files up? did you copy them over to the drive or did you use a program that may have encrypt your files into one file.
